EXCHANGE.RSC - Psion help file. RDMEEXCH.TXT - these instructions. Use WinZip and PsiWin (or whatever other means you normally use) to extract the files. Copy EXCHANGE.OPA to a directory called \APP on any Psion drive. On the Psion system screen postion the cursor to the right of where you want the icon for Exchange to appear (I suggest next to the Calc icon) and select Menu - Apps - Install (press Psi-I). Select the drive you copied Exchange.opa to and it should appear in the list of files to install. Running the application at this point will create a EXCHANGE sub-directory under the \APP directory on the Internal drive at generate a minimal data file M:\APP\EXCHANGE\EXCHANGE.DAT This file can be edited and added to from within the program (do not use the Psion Data Application - the file contains some non-text fields) You can copy the Help file EXCHANGE.RSC into the M:\APP\EXCHANGE directory (you will need to create the directory if you haven't run the program yet). If you do not install the help file you will save around 6k of memory. Finally you might like to assign the Ctrl+Calc button combination to give you a shortcut to the application: position the cursor under the Exchange icon on the system screen, select Menu - Apps - Assign button (or press Psi-A) and you can choose a shortcut key combination. Operation of the program should be self evident; if in doubt refer to the help file. The program has only been extensively tested on a 1Mb Psion 3a - there are almost certainly undiscovered bugs and problems - if you are first to find and report one I'll try and fix it and get a new version to you. No warranty is given or implied - you should always back up your data regularly, use of the program is entirely at your own risk. Country and currency exchange rates are stored in a file Additional facilities include a history window, access to Psion Calc memory M0, addition of tax (helpful with those stupid american shops who price things without including the tax) and editing of the data file. Currency Exchange Calculator is shareware. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Country Details Each country must have a unique name. Details stored include currency name, currency symbol (prefix or suffix), exchange rate to the root currency, whether the currency is locked to a parent currency (eg Franc and DMark locked to Euro), and the sales tax rate. The country on the left is the source, on the right the destination. PsiQ to change source for calculation, PsiP to change destination currency -------------------------------------------------------------------- Root Currency All conversion rates are referenced to a single root currency. It is possible to select a new root currency and recalculate all the rates automatically (PsiG). It is also possible to set a temporary direct rate between two currencies (PsiD). -------------------------------------------------------------------- Locked Currency A currency can have its exchange rate locked to a parent currency (eg French Franc is a child currency of the Euro) If the parent currency's rate to the root is changed then all its child rates will also be recalculated. If you change the rate of child currency you will be warned that you should change the parent instead. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Tax A default tax rate can be set for each country. The tax rate used in calculation is that of the source country (on the left) Psi* adds tax to the result, and Psi/ subtracts it. PsiT to set the tax rate for the source. -------------------------------------------------------------------- History Window The last four conversions can be seen in the scrolling history window on the right side of the screen. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Memory A single memory is provided, PsiRt and PsiLeft save and recall to memory. Psi+ and Psi- add and subtract the memory The memory is also available to the Psion Calc program. Use the name M0 in Calc to access the value. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Data File The data file is called EXCHANGE.DAT and should be in the M:\APP\EXCHANGE directory If it is not found when the program starts a default file with a few values will be created. Use PsiM to list and edit the data file. A separate program to import & and export to .CSV (comma separated text) files is supplied with registration. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Import/Export Utility programs for both the Psion and the PC are available to convert between the EXCHANGE.DAT file and a comma separated (.CSV) text file as created & used by many spreadsheets and databases. These are supplied FREE to registered users -------------------------------------------------------------------- Editing Key PsiM to edit the data file. Use up and down arrow keys to select a record. Press [Enter] to edit all the details, [Space] to just change the tax & exchange rates, [Tab] to create a new record, and [Delete] to erase a record. At the end of an editing session the file is re-sorted into alphabetical order by country- this may take some time on a big file. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Preference File The file M:\APP\EXCHANGE\EXCHANGE.PRF contains your registration code. If it is deleted or corrupted you will have to re-enter your details. This file also stores the countries used when the program exits so that it will restart in the same state. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Help File This file is EXCHANGE.RSC and is also in the M:\APP\EXCHANGE directory. It can be deleted to save space (Help will then no longer be available in the program). -------------------------------------------------------------------- Version The current (Sept 1999) version of the program is 3.2b.
